Description
Access to synchrotron instruments for running experiments typically requires sitting at a special-purpose workstation near each instrument, or using remote desktop software to access a shared desktop session on that workstation. We are augmenting this paradigm with server-client applications designed for secure, multi-user access through a web browser. The applications use modern web standards and technology, leverage the Bluesky experiment orchestration software ecosystem, and focus on clean, modular interfaces for performing streamlined experiments.
This presentation highlights recent developments for performing spectroscopy experiments, complementary additions to the Bluesky libraries, and a glimpse at the next stages of this project. At the In situ and Operando Soft X-ray Spectroscopy (IOS) beamline we have adapted existing workflows into a guided, progressive disclosure form for preparing, executing and monitoring X-ray absorption spectroscopy on batches of samples. This approach reduces cognitive load on visiting users, while also automating and validating multiple steps that previously required manual review and actions. The user interface imports React components from the Bluesky Finch library, and has generated new components that can be reused and customized at other beamlines. Deployment of the application code, infrastructure, and services is automated and readily integrated into our facility-scale architecture.
