The European XFEL and DESY are located in the Hamburg area of Germany. The city is well connected through all common means of transport, and both campuses are readily accessible through Hamburg's public transit system. The conference fee includes a public transit ticket for the duration of the conference. Bus transfer from EuXFEL to the dinner location will be provided.

By train
To Hamburg Altona station. To DESY: continue by bus line 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt) directly to the main entrance of DESY (bus stop Zum Hünengrab/DESY), traveltime approx. 25 min. Or continue by S-Bahn (local city train) line S1 (direction Blankenese/Wedel) to Othmarschen. Then go on with bus line 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt). To EuXFEL: continue by bus line 2 (direction Aneken) all the way to the Aneken terminal stop (travel time approx. 40 minutes). Note that this bus line alternates terminal stations, so make sure to take a bus to Aneken. These run every 20 minutes during the day. Or continue by S-Bahn on S1 (direction Wedel) to Iserbrook, and then take the 285 bus (direction Bf. Pinneberg) to Aneken (total travel time approx. 40 minutes). The walk from Aneken to EuXFEL in either case is about 5 minutes.

By plane
From the Hamburg airport Fuhlsbüttel: To DESY: continue with city train line S1 (direction Blankenese/Wedel) to Othmarschen station. Then go on with bus line 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt) to the main entrance of DESY (bus stop Zum Hünengrab/DESY). To EuXFEL: take the S1 train (direction Wedel) to Iserbrook and then continue with the 285 bus (direction Bf. Pinneberg) to Aneken.

Optional: taxi traveling time approx. 40-50 min to either campus.

By car
To DESY: exit the Autobahn (A7) at HH-Bahrenfeld. Arriving in Hamburg from the South: turn left onto the main road (Osdorfer Weg). Arriving in Hamburg from the North: turn right onto the main road (Osdorfer Weg). After approx. 1.5 km, turn right onto Notkestraße. The main entrance of DESY is the second road on the left. To EuXFEL: follow the instructions to DESY but don't turn into Notkestrasse but stay on Osdorfer Weg. Instead, approx. 5.3 km after leaving the highway, turn right onto Schenefelder Landstr. Turn right into Osterbrooksweg after approx. 1.7 km, and then right into Holzkoppel after about 300m. The EuXFEL is located at the end of this road.

DESY Hamburg Site, side entrance
The side entrance of DESY is located on the Luruper Chaussee. The bus line 2 stops there (bus stop DESY) and also the bus line 3 starting from 07:15 only on weekdays. The side entrance is open for motorists from Monday until Friday, 06:00 to 19:00, and closed on weekends. It is open for pedestrians and cyclists at all times.

DESY to EuXFEL and back
The main entrance of the European XFEL is located on Holzkoppel. The bus line 2 stops close by (bus stop) and services this stop from and to DESY every 20 minutes. Buses from DESY to EuXFEL are in direction Aneken, from EuXFEL to DESY are in direction Berliner tor. From the Aneken bus stop it is approximately a 5 minute walk to the European XFEL main gate.
