daiquiri: a general overview, extensibility, and current integrations

Description

Daiquiri [1] is a web based User Interface (UI) framework for control system monitoring and data acquisition. It provides simple, intuitive, and responsive interfaces to control and monitor hardware, launch acquisition sequences, and manage associated metadata. Daiquiri concerns itself only with the UI layer, it does not provide a scan engine or controls system but can be easily integrated with existing systems. Daiquiri can also launch online data processing and interact with the ESRF workflow system ewoks [2] via dedicated tasks.

To aid with code sharing internally and for potential collaboration @esrf/daiquiri-lib has been created. This is a standalone javascript library published to npm containing all of the hardware widgets from daiquiri, the layout manager, and other helpers to create a coherent User Experience (UX) between applications. In addition significant efforts have been made to help both the development of daiquiri without BLISS (daiquiri-standalone), and also to provide comprehensive documentation and tutorials for the integration of other controls systems and scan engines [3]. Work is ongoing between ESRF and DESY to combine daiquiri, TANGO, and bluesky, a proof of concepts integrating the PSI control system BEC has been developed, and SOLEIL are currently investigating the potential use of daiquiri with TANGO.

Daiquiri is currently in use on ID11, ID13, ID16B, ID21 with the mapping interface, BM05, ID16B, BM18, and ID19 for tomography, and BM29 for BioSAXS. A number of other deployments are underway this year.
