Expert Meeting #3

Europe/Berlin
XHQ, E1.173 (European XFEL)

XHQ, E1.173

European XFEL

Holzkoppel 4 22869 Schenefeld Germany
Description

The European XFEL is considered to be fully operational since 2020. The facility is currently in its harvesting phase, operating for user experiments and generating numerous scientific results. Looking ahead to the end of the 2030s, however, an upgrade and extension of the facility, or parts thereof, will be needed to meet the demands of new scientific applications and to enable a growing number of user experiments. Options under consideration include major changes to the electron accelerator, as well as new FEL sources, beamlines and scientific instruments.

It is our aim to present a European XFEL upgrade proposal before the end of the 2020s to our Council. An important part of this proposal will be the science case for the upgrade. To prepare this case we are organising a series of expert meetings and a series of science workshops.

The aim of this expert meeting on ... is to gather input on:

  •          Present day limitations to methods and scientific applications
  •          Future options and development of new methods, and the requirements for these
  •          Potential scientific applications of these new methods
    • 14:00 15:00
